Trusting God in Uncertain Times

UGA Media Devotional | Tuesday, 20 October 2026

Key Scripture: Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

When the Future Is Unclear

Life does not always unfold as we expect. At times, we face unanswered questions, unexpected changes, financial difficulties, health concerns, or decisions whose outcomes we cannot foresee. We may pray for direction and still find ourselves waiting. We may believe God’s promises and yet feel anxious about what lies ahead.

Uncertainty is part of the human experience, but it does not mean that God has abandoned us.

The Bible reminds us that our confidence should not rest entirely on what we can see or understand. Proverbs 3:5–6 calls us to trust the Lord with all our hearts, even when our circumstances do not make sense. Trusting God means relying on His wisdom and faithfulness when we cannot see the whole picture.

We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we can know the One who holds our future.

Faith When We Cannot See the Way

Consider Abraham. God called him to leave his country and go to a place He would show him, yet Abraham was not given every detail of the journey in advance (Genesis 12:1–4). He had to move forward in faith, trusting God’s direction one step at a time.

His story reminds us that faith does not always come with a complete plan. Sometimes God reveals the next step without showing us the entire road.

We often desire certainty before we obey. We want to know that everything will work out, that our plans will succeed, and that our difficulties will soon end. Yet faith invites us to trust God’s character even when His timing and methods are beyond our understanding.

Isaiah 41:10 offers this assurance:

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee.”

Notice that God does not promise that we will never face frightening or difficult situations. He promises His presence, strength, and help in the midst of them.

Our peace does not depend on knowing every detail of tomorrow. It grows as we learn to depend on God today.

What Does Trusting God Look Like?

Trust is more than saying that we believe in God. It is a daily decision reflected in how we pray, think, and act.

1. Pray instead of carrying every worry alone.

Philippians 4:6–7 encourages us to bring our requests to God through prayer and thanksgiving. Prayer may not immediately change our circumstances, but it turns our attention toward the One who can sustain us through them.

2. Remember God’s faithfulness.

When the future feels frightening, reflect on the ways God has guided, strengthened, and comforted you in the past. Remembering His faithfulness can encourage your heart as you wait for answers.

3. Take the next faithful step.

You may not know how everything will work out, but you can still do what is right today. Seek wisdom, fulfil your responsibilities, make thoughtful decisions, and remain faithful to God’s Word.

4. Leave the outcome in God’s hands.

Trusting God does not mean ignoring problems or refusing to plan. It means doing your part responsibly while recognising that the final outcome is not entirely within your control.

God’s Presence in the Waiting

Perhaps you are waiting for an answer to prayer. Maybe you are facing a difficult decision, wondering about the future, or struggling to understand why a particular door has closed.

Do not mistake waiting for abandonment. An unanswered question is not proof that God is absent, and a difficult season does not mean that your story has ended.

Psalm 46:1 declares:

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

God’s presence is not limited to seasons when everything is going well. He is our refuge in trouble, our strength in weakness, and our hope when the way ahead is unclear.

We may not always understand what God is doing, but we can continue to seek Him, trust His promises, and walk in the light He has given us.

A Moment for Reflection

Take a few minutes today to consider the following questions:

  • What uncertainty is currently making it difficult for me to trust God?
  • Am I relying only on what I can understand, or am I willing to seek God’s wisdom?
  • What is one faithful step I can take today while leaving the outcome in His hands?

You do not have to solve every problem today. Begin by bringing your concerns to God and trusting Him for the strength to take the next step.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being faithful even when life feels uncertain. Forgive me for the times I allow fear and worry to replace trust. Teach me to depend on Your wisdom rather than my limited understanding. Give me courage to take the next step, patience while I wait, and peace that comes from knowing You are with me. Help me surrender what I cannot control and remain faithful in what You have placed before me today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Carry This Thought With You

You may not know what tomorrow will bring, but you can face tomorrow with confidence in the God who never changes.

When uncertainty surrounds you, return to His promises. When fear rises, turn to Him in prayer. And when you cannot see the whole road, trust Him enough to take the next step.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)

May your heart find rest in God’s faithfulness this week.
